DIY: OMBRE DRESSER

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

"I don't care where we go, I just NEED to find a dresser" said my sister Chrisi, while we were on our garage sale-n', thrift store scavenger hunt this past Saturday. Us Tuma's are hardcore in the garage sale game. iPhone apps and all, we go out Saturday mornings ready to divide and conquer! I swear, it's awesome. Especially when you find a stack of 15 Golden Books for your little one and pay ONE dolla', holla'! Anyhow, on our way back to home base, we stopped at one last sale and found a dresser! Best part about it, it was $15! My sister was nearly jumping out of her pants... does she not know we have to play it cool in order to haggle the price? C'mon Chrisi, get with it! Pedro got them down from $20 to $15, woot!

All of woman-kind needs to thank Pinterest for making our o'-so-crafty little spirit come out!

Check out how we made a shabby old dresser look tres chic!

Quick & simple instructions!
  1. Find a dresser you'd like to re-vamp!
  2. Unscrew all of the hardware.
  3. Sand, sand, sand! Sand down all surfaces on the dresser including the drawers.
  4. Spray paint the old hardware in the color of your choice!
  5. Prime, prime, prime.
  6. I used a sponge brush instead of a paint brush to avoid brush strokes.
  7. Paint the drawers in the ombre gradient you choose. Let completely dry.
  8. Put drawers back in, screw on hardware and... Voila!
My sister wanted to take this dresser back to Gainesville for her brand spankin' new apartment. Lucky for me, it won't fit in the car and has been so graciously handed down to Khloe! I'M SO EXCITED! Now, let's pray she doesn't rent a Uhaul, mmmkay?!

  2. Great job Chrisi! It came out awesome! It's not easy finding a good piece of furniture at a garage sale. Good thing you brought the queen of garage sales with you. ;)
